CARDAMOM

Ground seeds are essential in Indian cuisine; featured in the
best of Indian curries, biryanis, pilaus, and dhals, and an
important member of the spice mixture, garam masala.
Cardamom's perfumed flavour is delicious in lassi, the famous
yogurt drink of India, and in Indian spiced tea. Scandinavians
are particularly fond of its liberal use in pastries. Leaves are
used in curries inTrinidad. Makes an appealing houseplant
with its perfumed leaves, even if it is difficult to coax into
bloom.

(Pot Marigold) Flower petals give delicate flavor and strong
color to salads, omelets and cheese, and is used as a saffron
substitute for rice. Invaluable in first-aid skin lotions and
ointments.
These bright yellow and orange flowers are a familiar sight in
cottage and country gardens. The petals have a pungent,
improve skin hydration and firmness. The dried petals of the
calendula plant are used in tinctures, ointments, and washes to
treat burns, bruises, and cuts, as well as the minor infections
they cause.

Cardoon can reach up to 5 feet tall and 4 feet wide
Cardoon is an architectural splendor with bold texture,
thanks to its large, prickly, almost dagger-shaped gray-
green arching leaves and a statuesque, vase-shaped
frame. It is topped with round, purple, thistlelike flowers in
midsummer..
A close cousin of the artichoke. Produces magnificent
flowerheads that can be cut and dried for arrangements.
Edible leaf stalks and midribs are tasty when blanched.
Unopened flowerheads can be eaten like artichokes.

This non-edible tropical grass is the source of commercial
citronella oil used in various products to repel mosquitos and
other biting flies. Coarse grass quickly grows to a large clump
up to 6' wide by 6' tall in warm climates. Frost sensitive grass
can be overwintered indoors with adequate light in colder
climates. Grass can be rubbed on clothing to repel mosquitos,
but please use caution when rubbing on bare skin as it has been
known to cause an allergic skin reaction in some individuals.

Comfreys are among the most important medicinal herbs. They
contain allantoin, a hormone-like substance that stimulates cell
division, making the comfreys valuable for healing wounds,

used. Comfreys are nutritional herbs, rich in calcium, potassium,
phosphorus, vitamins and trace elements. Important fodder and
green manure crop as well. Of easiest culture; can be grown
indoors or out.

Delightfully curry-scented foliage. The essential oil is
used to enhance fruit flavors in confections and
perfumes. Small button-like yellow flowers will
appear in summer, and can be used in potpourris to
brighten the mix. The flowers inspired the name
Heliochrysum, from the Greek words helios, the sun,
and chrysos, golden. Trim it back after flowering to
maintain its shape. A silvery plant with irresistible
charm.
